Language of Verbs and Adverbs
...in physiological textbooks, we speak of the brain, or the nervous system, as 'governing' the heart or the digestive tract, smuggling bad politics into science, as if the heart belonged to the brain rather than the brain to the heart or the stomach. Yet it is as true, or false, to say that the brain 'feeds itself' through the stomach as that the stomach 'evolves' a brain at its upper entrance to get more food.
As soon as one sees that separate things are fictitious, it becomes obvious that...Folksonomies: perspective ways of seeing

Eastern Identification Goes from Large to Small
0:00 Take a close look at how we write our addresses. 0:03 In the East, including Korea, we start with the biggest unit. 0:08 We write the country first, then the city and province, then the neighborhood and street. 0:14 And finally, we reach the smallest unit, the individual's specific address. 0:20 The Western way is the exact opposite. 0:22 To them, the most important thing is the exact spot where I'm standing right now, the street 0:28 number and specific address. Grammatical Conventions Delineate Reality
Thus the task of education is to make children fit to live in a society by persuading them to learn and accept its codes-the rules and conventions of communication whereby the society holds itself together. There is first the spoken language. The child is taught to accept "tree" and not "boojum" as the agreed sign for that (pointing to the object). Most children would have at least waited to get their wands first.

Harry withdrew the bag, then plunged it again into the mokeskin pouch. He took out his hand, put it back in, and said, "Bag of tokens of economic exchange." That time his hand came ou...Rational Potter experiments with a magical bag that will give him whatever he asks for and doesn't understand why it can understand some requests but not others.

The Nature of Language Affects a Child's Understanding of...
It turns out that, just by the nature of the grammar of their languages, Korean- and English-speaking parents talk about the world quite differently. Korean (like Latin or French) uses an elaborate system of different verb endings to convey different meanings. As a consequence, Korean-speaking parents can, and often do, omit nouns altogether when they talk to their children. A Korean mother can say the equivalent of "moving in" when she sees the baby put a block in a cup, without saying anyth...Korean mothers focus of describing the world in verbs, English mothers focus on nouns; as a result, Korean children are better physical problem solvers while English children are better at understanding how objects fit together associatively.
