How to Prevent Others from Making You Angry
Peace doesn't come by stiffening against
life, but by realizing there's no one to
stiffen. The waves rise and fall and the
ocean never minds. In the same way,
anger, irritation, frustration, they
come and go, but they are not you. To be
unbothered is not to build a wall around
yourself, but to see that there was
never a separate self to defend in the
first place. You see, when something
happens,
a disrespecting word, a sudden
disappointment, a rude interruption,
there's a tiny instant before ...05 OCT 2025 by ideonexus
Aristotle Categorized Species as Immutable, the Theory of...
Aristotle noted three characteristics of his concept of species. First, each species is a whole. It is comprehensive, representative of all the objects embraced within it, and any one of these objects may be used as an example of all others. The species tree, for example, embraces all trees whether they are used for timber or for firewood; and any given tree may exemplify the species which includes all trees.

Wikipedia Works Because It Focuses on Process
Over the ensuing two decades, editors amended policies to cope with conspiracy theorists, revisionist historians, militant fandoms, and other perennial goblins of the open web. There were the three core content guidelines of Neutral Point of View, Verifiability, and No Original Research; the five pillars of Wikipedia; and a host of rules around editor conduct, like the injunction to avoid ad hominem attacks and assume good faith of others, defined and refined in interlinked articles and essay...06 JAN 2018 by ideonexus
American Exceptionalism Prevents Americans from Recognizi...
Americans enjoy lower qualities of life on every single indicator that you can possibly think of. The same is true for things like maternal mortality, stress, work and leisure, press freedom, quality of democracy — every single thing you can think of that impacts how well, happily, meaningfully, and sanely you live is worse in America, by a very long way. Teacher Approval Ends Discussion
After years of classroom research, Dillon (1988) concluded that teacher interventions during student discussions tend to shut down student thinking and student talk. He found this to be particularly true of positive feedback or praise. The rationale, of course, is that when a teacher communicates agreement with one student’s thinking, both the speaker and other classmates conclude that there is no need for further thought because the teacher has gotten the answer he or she was after. Fishbowl Discussions for Political Dialogue
Working with the Choices Program at Brown University, Zupin and a team of social studies teachers in Indiana found that "fishbowls" are a particularly effective strategy for keeping the peace during a controversial political discussion. A group of five to seven students sit in an inner circle (the fishbowl) deliberating an essential question while the rest of the class observes in a wider circle around them. Then the students switch positions. The format encourages students to "listen to hear...31 JUL 2014 by ideonexus
